The city of Lompoc has been experiencing low employee levels and with the past budgetary issues, the council worked to resolve, hiring in many departments resumed. Including the utility department, specifically for the electrical lineman position. With power issues & downed grids due to balloons, the issue has become more important to the residents of Lompoc.

Response from the City of Lompoc
Good Afternoon:
This is a response to your request for information received by this office on August 3, 2020 requesting the following:
- List of total candidates applied for electrical lineman jobs.
- List of # of candidates that were called back for each following phase of the hiring process.
- List of # candidates that have been offered a position or are still potential candidates.
The staff has provided the following information.
12-Kv/Electrical Line Worker minimum qualifications include: Journey-level electrical line worker status attained through completing a sanctioned apprenticeship (minimum 4 yours). Also, possession of an appropriate and valid commercial driver’s license; minimum of class “B” commercial driver’s license. Applicants are required to submit a satisfactory driving history, from the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV printout), dated within the last six months. Class “A” commercial driver’s license highly desirable. 12-Kv rubber glove certification highly desirable.
- Question 1: Since May 2019, there have been 55 applicants
- Question 2: Only five (5) met the minimum qualifications. Of those five, only one candidate previously participated in the interview process and four candidates are to be scheduled for new testing. This new testing is to commence soon. Continuous recruitment is currently ongoing.
- Question 3: None to date, the one (1) candidate who previously tested, did not complete process; withdrew from the recruitment process prior to written/performance exams.
The City considers this request complete and closed.
